Tournament Smallmouth Fisherman, Trevor Zimak hoists a large Smallmouth Bass Caught on a Mighty Mitch and Jungle Joe Jig Fly. Here's Trevor's Description on a Mighty Mitch and Jungle Joe Jig Fly Technique.
Basically I was doing a couple of things with these jigs. Its a funky
tactic and is working CONSISTENTLY well on every lake I fish
.
The first thing I was doing:
It was partly cloudy out and I was throwing top waters and missing a lot of fish. My guess was they were just bumping the bait. So I decided to toss a throw back bait where the initial swirl came from and about 6 times out of 10, I got that fish with Mighty Mitch and Jungle Joe Jigs. I think I could have increased my ratio to about 8 times out of 10 if I had some lighter weight jigs. Another tactic that was working well was hopping the jig off bottom. About 10-16 feet deep was the most productive, given that time of year. I was fishing tapered wind blown points. (This is where I liked the heavy style jig) However, I was fishing the jig in the same depth off of the point..... Paralleling it, if you will. Seemed to be producing more strikes. There's one other technique that I was using and does involve paralleling points but its more funky than the previous.... AND IT WORKED!!! when other normal things didn't.
