Shebandowan Lake

    Techniques

This lake contains a lot of walleye! There is also some trophy small mouth bass and pike. Things to see are the old gold mines and swooping bald eagles as they dive on their prey. Access to the lake is gained through various locations along the Atikokan Highway.

Spring:

The walleye seem to be all of the shallow areas. Please refer to the Ontario Fishing Regulations as there are quite a few sanctuaries during this period. Stay away from the river and river mouths as these seem to be the sanctuaries. A jig and a minnow or worm is pretty much all you need to catch them!

Summer:

The walleye like to hang out on rocky shoals at about 20-30 feet down. A white or a neutral coloured jig baited with live bait seems to work well. Use a slow bottom hugging retrieve. You won't feel a nibble. It feels like a different kind of weight or drag is there. Just let out some line, wait a few seconds then set the hook. Trolling with spoons and crank baits also produce walleye. These lures also seem to produce a lot of pike also! Sometimes big ones!

Fall:

Here you will find them 40-60 feet hugging the bottom! A 1/2-3/4 ounce jig works best here. Be careful! Bring them up slowly. If you bring them up fast your fishing will be done when you catch 4 fish!

Winter:

Yet to be determined as I have not ice fished here yet!
