Walleye Spawning Table.
Weight Table

SHALLOW RESERVOIRS.

Shallow Reservoirs are very fertile man made lakes.

Walleye may be pressed to find suitable spawning areas as the rivers, streams and lake bottom may be silted in. If this is the case walleye will use what ever gravel and rubble they can find. Walleye will use dam facings, old road and railway beds.

When the walleye are completed spawning they will move to mud flats where they can find warmer water and forage such as immature insects and bait fish. Walleyes will often move to rocky and brush covered points and some will stay here through the summer.

Walleyes in shallow reservoirs will usually go no deeper than fifteen feet. The low clarity will allow them to stay in the shallows throughout the summer. Also the depths may lack sufficient oxygen. If the old river bed has a firm bottom, you may find walleye here. Look for them among trees and stumps and submerged hilltops.

In the fall the water cools and the walleye will relate to sharper breaks. As the dam is opened to allow room for the spring run off, the walleyes will move to deeper holes in the old river bed of lake basins.
